Day in the life – Karen Spearing – Head of Delivery
Karen Spearing is the Head of Delivery for Talent Consulting. During her career, Karen has worked for over 15 years in both public and private sectors in IT systems delivery and business change, working in Agile Delivery Manager, Business Analyst and Project Manager roles.
Karen's responsibility is to lead the day-to-day operations within Talent Consulting, focusing on people, projects and processes.
Starting out - My background before Talent
I have worked for over 15 years in both public and private sector in IT systems delivery and business change working in Agile Delivery Manager, Business Analyst and Project Manager roles. In my career I’ve worked across Health & Social Care, Retail, Insurance, Manufacturing & Travel industries.
My Role in Talent
I joined at the end of January 2022 and spent a number of months working on some very interesting projects within the Department for Education, most recently looking at a cross government initiative where technology will support information sharing and safeguarding of children.
I'm now spending all my time and energy on our day-to-day operations, looking at how to improve our processes, develop our people and ensure we deliver great quality projects.
My Day in the Life
An average day starts with, …well there is no average day. One day I can be looking at our career framework ensuring we have exciting and rewarding career paths for our permanent colleagues, another day I can be organising our regular meet ups where we spend time with each other developing our capabilities and building a great team.
I lead and support our Delivery Managers, Business Analysts and Product Managers ensuring that they have the development, training, skills and support necessary to deliver fantastic service to our clients in the Public Sector Agile world. Our tech team is led by my counterpart Richard Parkins, Head of Architecture and together we ensure our teams have everything they need to build better, bolder, inclusive public services.
